Why doesn't Lake Tahoe freeze?

~~ The average temperatures for the winter months at Lake Tahoe are
December 14degrees Fahrenheit,
January, 15degrees,
and February 17degrees.
These temperatures are not cold enough to freeze such a large expanse of water.
Some statistics about the Lake may help you to see why it doesn't freeze.
Though sitting at an elevation of over 6,200ft:
~~ Lake Tahoe is 22miles wide by 12miles long
~~ 1645ft maximum with an average depth of 989ft
~~ The lake's surface area is 122,200 acres
~~ With a volume of 39 trillion gallons
And
~~ The sun shines at Lake Tahoe during 75% of the year, or 274 days.

Others
there could be two things that i know
1. it could be a small to large current
2. it could be so big that it only freezes the edge of the lake
3. or it could be the salt content
Too dense.
Due to its large thermal mass Lake Tahoe does not freeze in winter. The lake is renowned for its high water clarity.

Although ice does form on Emerald Bay in the south west corner at times and in proctected inlet areas.

Average water temp in February - 40 to 50 degrees

a lake will not develop an ice cover until, all water contained reachs 39 f. lake tahoe is very deep and the winter season does not produce the near zero temps that would cool the all the water to this tempreture
