Do I need to learn Scottish or ("Glasweigen?" ) to travel in Scotland? |
Travel Info I heard that everyoen speaks Glasweigen? Whats thats? Travel Tips No. English is the legal language and everyone speaks and understand it. The old language, Gaelic, is spoken by some as a second language. Glaswegian is the patois of people who live in Glasgow. Others It's usually called Scots Gaelic, and the indigenous language is spoken alongside English. Most Scots speak only English (with that charming accent) and are aware of what Americans do and don't understand about their dialect. You'll be fine. Enjoy the trip! My grandmother travelled in Scotland two years ago without having to learn a second language. She didn't have any trouble at all. She had a wonderful time and says that anybody who can go to Scotland, should! :) So, have a great time on your visit!! If you can speak English you fine. Unless you want to look like an idiot and impersonate a glaswegian. No, they speak English. However, it may sound heavily accented to you. I have found it tougher to understand than any other form of English. It's a great county, wonderful people, so go and enjoy. as a glasweigen myself iam pleased by the nice comments its a brilliant city with friendly locals and lots to do hope u have a great time when u get here |
