How safe is Athens for tourists?

Is it safe for two girls to travel alone? My gf is going to Athens (and some other islands, I can't quite recall the names) with her other girl friend and I'm worried for her.

Athens is a very safe town, specialy for girls and women. I'm a women and I really enjoy that. At weekends, I usually walk in streets after midnigth and I feel realy safe. Of cource, there are some places, like Omonia square and all the roads around, that aren't safe during nigth for a girl. Don't go there during nigth. Go there during day to see the meat and fish market and many other things and feel ubsolutly SAFE! If someone comes in Greece must be a little carefull for his/her things but he will be very-very safe. The people are very kind and helpfull, the weather is fine and the people love to walk all nigth long, specialy in Placa area, Kolonaki or Sintagma Square. Islands are very safe too. You have not a reason to worry about!

Very safe.As you see all the above agree.Other than rare pick pocket cases and a couple of areas after dark girls feel safe in Athens.Avoiding extra provocative outfit after midnight is a plus if you do not want to attract attention of the "greek lovers"!!
