Travel Info What are the best places to see on the mainland of greece? Travel Tips Ok,I think the persons above did not get the meaning of your questions, everyone is trying to advertise their place...(Mykonos in mainland????r u for real??)... Well,I ll tell you everything you need to know.Yes,the starting points are Athens of course(with all its ancient and contemporary glory, very beautiful especially after the Olympics) and Thessaloniki, also with many monuments to visit and a great night life. Apart from the two greater cities though, there are other places you should visit if you have the time. Meteora rocks is a classic one, great natural monument with christian orthodox monasteries on top, just breathtaking. There are other ancient places like Delphi,Olympia,Dion, Pella(Alexander the great),Mycenae etc.I could tell you more if you like. There are also great mountains with nice villages, like Parnassos Mt. with Arachova,Pelion Mt. with dozens of picturesque villages(and sea also at its feet) and Pindos Mt. with mountainous Trikala villages(Elati,Pertouli etc.) and Zagorochoria in Ioannina region.Florina and Kastoria region is also very beautiful, and one should also mention Karpenisi region(80% covered by forests). There are many many choices,it depends on what you are specifically looking for.If you are looking for sports (trekking,climbing,rafting,kan... kayak etc.) I could give you more info too. Enjoy! (Hope I ve been helpful...) Source(s): Personal experience. Other Travel Tips Athens and the many beaches nearby Miss Universe will be held in Greece early June. You can also see many museums with ancient history, sculptures, many nude sculptures lol and then you can also see the city. The whole city is full of shopping malls, people, crowds. They are very friendly, they can help you if you ask for directions. But watch out of the streets lol. For real, cars in the street will not stop if you try to cross the street. You only have to use the pedestrians crossings that r controlled by lights, and if you r caught crossing the street with red, they can ran you over. I m for real. They r crazy in there. Other than that you can travel cheaply and very easily around Greece and towns by buses and boats. It is beautiful. The two major cities are Thessaloniki and Athens. Athens has the parthenon monument and Thessaloniki is less crowded with it's own sights too and hence easier to navigate. I went to Thessaloniki, Santorini and Thassos last summer. It was awesome. You need to go Santorini, and definitely need to go to Mykonos. Mykonos is full of parties. I havent gone yet to Mykonos, but definetely will. Hey you wanna go together? lol Oh yea, and the food. you gotta love the food. The fish. It is so fresh. It is not frozen. The ouzo, regina, baklavas, mousakas, tahini, greek salad, galaktompoureko there is so many food you can try. But you gotta try the fish and wines or ouzo or regina and be a little dizzy and start doing the greek dance and sing with the band that is currently playing, and yell "OPA" lol http://www.saloniki.org/ http://www.greecetravel.com/thessaloniki... http://www.athensguide.com/ http://www.greecetravel.com/ http://www.greece-athens.com/ Modified 1 year ago |
