Travel Info Any suggestions or great deals for traveling to Greece this summer? Travel Tips Last year, I went to Kos, one of the Dodecanes Islands. In Kos-City, you can find buildings from the Italians, the Turcs, the ancient Greeks,... as well as touristical stuff. The town itself is very green, lots of flowers, parks, trees, some of the archeological sites are right inside the town in parks or between houses. Don麓t forget to visit the "Asklipeion", a famous archeological site about 3 kilometres from Kos-City. Around the island, there are many beaches. The beaches in the west of the island are more silent, in the north, there are the vacation spots Tigaki, Marmari and Mastichari. In the west of the island, you find the traditional town of Kefalos. See: http://www.hippocrates.gr From Kos, the Turkish town of Bodrum is easy to reach by ferryboat (one-day-trips are offered on every corner): http://www.bodrum-bodrum.com Also the island of Kalymnos (not far from Kos) is very interesting. It is less touristic than Kos. It is the island of the sponge divers (don麓t forget to buy a sponge). You can also go climbing on the rocks there: http://www.kalymnos-isl.gr Between Kalymnos and the Turkish coast, there is the small island of Pserimos. There are only a few inhabitants. I don't know where you're going or what you're interested in. Stop in Athens to get a taste of the real Greek culture, but if you want to relax go to Mykonos(not sure on the spelling). If you're going there for the history there are literally 100 places you could see, and they're not hard to find. Stay out of the sun and bring sun tan lotion. The sun gets really bad during the middle of the day. It's also really dry there so drink lots of bottled water, don't use the taps they don't have great filters there. After Athens take a ferry or plane to Crete,Iraklion city spend a few days visiting Knossos,museums,go to Hania city and visit the Samaria gorge,see the picturesque city of Rethimnon,go to Vai palm forest in east end (Agios Nikolaos),then from Iraklion to the island of Santorini with ferry or catamaran,and start an endless island hopping:ios,paros,naxos,mikono... choices are endless,enjoy the trip! www.skyeye.gr |
