Any good things to do in crete? |
Travel Info we are going to crete in may but never been before. can any one give us some pointers. Travel Tips It really depends on where you are heading for in Crete and what kind of activities you enjoy. Don't worry about May being early. There are already a few tourists here and everything will be open by Greek Easter (April 23rd). If you are heading for the north-east coast, then Malia is the party town full of clubs and bars, but not nice if you want to get away from a lot of under-age drinkers throwing up etc. Stalis is the best resort in the area, if you are based there you have a range of restaurants and bars for night-time. Just up the road is the Lychnostatis museum, a 15 minute walk away, a traditional museum showing you how Cretans used to live. In the same area is Star Beach Water Park, a large complex with children's pools, slides, bungee jumping, beach etc. For more historical pursuits, I highly recommend Knossos, which you can reach from the main bus station in Heraklion, the capital. Don't splash out all your money on an organised trip-go independently (its easy to find) and spend a bit of money on a guide once inside, its well worth it. The Samaria Gorge is a big trek, and only recommended for fairly fit people. However I've heard it may not open because of an earthquake this winter which has made it unsafe. Further afield with a rental car, you can find such places as the Dikti Cave, where Zeus was supposed to have been born. On the East coast there is Vai Beach, a romantic palm beach, which is a long drive, but nice to explore. Please get in touch with me for more specific information... Others boris na fas souvlaki kai dako.Epeisis prepei oposdipote na pieis raki kai olous tous mezedes pou tin sunodevoun.exo ena filo ekei ton diapouli psakse na ton breis.einai kalo paidi.oli mera lionei stous bafous. Consider purchasing a travel guide. They cost a few dollars. yehhhh ya can pick up a great Souvlaki If there's a 'Rough Guide' to Crete it's probably worth getting. I get the rough guide to anywhere I'm visiting. Tells it like it is and also tells you about the stuff other books miss. One thing to do is to walk the Samaria Gorge. But it's not for the faint hearted, it's 11 miles long. Zeus's cave is another one to visit. I liked Vai beach too. I hired a motorbike and cruised up the mountains. Met a wedding party up in the hills and ended up joining up with them. Great fun!! You will find a lot of things to do there don't worry. The only thing that concerns me is that you might find everything ready during may since will be the beginning of the season. So don't get disappointed. If you will stay close to Heraklion then visit Knossos archaeological site, go to a waterpark, visit the beaches and try to go and mingle in the small non touristic cafes. Visit definitely the city of Chania which for me the most beautiful city of Crete and you must definitely taste the dishes of Cretan and Greek cusine ignore the soublaki and experience more sophisticated tastes like dakos. During your stay there you will be able to buy excursions, do it. Dont hire a car. The roads are bad and the cretan drivers are the worst in Greece. Believe I have been staying Crete during my college years. spent a couple of weeks there last summer. had been before and seen all the usual north coast stuff. This time discovered the south coast. Lots of places the tourist still do not go to. Only found a few german tourist but they are everywhere. Found a great hotel but a little pricey at Kakkos bay. got lots of good stuff from site its about greece on traveling there |
