Santorini - Stay at beach, cliffs, or Fira (town)? |
Travel Info Will be visiting Greece 2nd week of May and am curious what people would recommend. Whether to stay in a hotel near the beach, up high, or in a town like Fira or one of the smaller towns. Am looking for romance and on-demand shopping & partying. "On-demand" means I don't necessarily want shopping & partying anywhere near where I'll be sleeping. Travel Tips Stay in Fira on the caldera (cliffs) or in Oia on the caldera. Oia is reputed to have the best sunset in the world, and if you walk down the cliff to the little harbor (or you can drive down) the waves coming in roll the egg-sized rocks and they sound like snap, crackle, and pop. The beaches at Santorini aren't that great. Go to another island for beautiful beaches. Others Cliffs. We were in Santorini from acruise ship last fall and from what I saw I would recommend staying in town. We didn't get to see the beaches up close, but from afar they didn't look that inviting. I personally would prefer the city areas and cliffs. Stay on the cliffs. You can rent awesome villas that have gorgeous views of the Aegean Sea, enjoy the sunsets and watch the coming and going of the cruise ships. We stayed in one with a couple other people that had a huge terrace where we could sunbathe and hang out. It was walking distance to restaurants. We rented jeep or moped to get to the beaches. Lots of fun! Check out http://asterasvillas.gr/hotel.htm... STAY ON FIRA THE BEST NIGHT LIFE YOU DONT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT PARKING ALTHOUGH YOU NEED TORENT A CAR FOR MOOVING AROUND TO THE BEACH. Then stay near the beach or near the mountains. I've been to Santorini and I drove about 5 minutes to night-life and shopping areas. If what you need is endless swimming and "beach-bar nights" go to the beaches (such as Kamari and Perissa). If you prefer intense night life and shopping you should go to Fira. If you would rather have peaceful vacations then go to Imerovigli, or even better Oia. -of course you have to think that there is no caldera view at the beaches- I believe that first you should check the following link to find more info for santorini http://www.greekaegeanislands.com/island... |
