I'm planning my first trip to Greece. Please advise me of ways to keep from wasting time and money.? |
Travel Info I want to see the most important historic sites, the most beautiful islands and the countryside. I want to meet the ordinary people, see the nightlife and eat the food I already love... and not be tied to some sort of regimented tour. I have been to many countries without a set plan and not knowing the language and prefer the freedom to change plans and explore as options are presented. I was thinking about a couple of days in Athens, then a short? but comprehensive Greek Isle Cruise, then having about a week to explore either new locations or favorites from the cruise. Suggestions please. Travel Tips you have to visit the Parthenon in Athens and the archaeological museum. In Athens you will probably like "Plaka", it's a marketplace with taverns. About the islands, there are some nice locations for organized camping in Mylos and Samothraki (usually young people choose them - the view in samothraki is amazing). Camping there is organized and very cheap. A very nice island for a great view and great night life is Santorini (but it's a bit expensive). In general the biggest expense is the hotel. Good luck and have fun! Others just be really nice to people over their and they'll pay for every thing they love Americans, if you don't believe me just try it but their money values more then the U.S currency Hostels are probably the cheapest accommodation.
