Travel Info I want to travel to central america. what do you think about Guatemala? comments.....? Travel Tips well, I may be biased...but I personally think it's a great country to travel to. It has incredibly diverse landscapes, rich history, unique culture and some of the most friendly and wonderful people you will ever meet. I think it's a great choice...make sure you check out places like Tikal, Antigua, Panajachel, Coban, Rio Dulce and Livingston while you're there. There are tons of places to learn Spanish, volunteer, hike, or just relax. Plus, it is one of the cheapest places to travel to in all of Latin America. It is also easy to travel to Mexico, Belize, Honduras and El Salvador from Guatemala. I would check some of the off the beaten track type places such as Nebaj, check out www.nebaj.com, they have a ton of info about it. Also check out www.mayanadventure.com as they have a ton of info about traveling through Guatemala www.nebaj.com www.mayanadventure.com I loved Guatemala, it is so colourful. Antigua is great for relaxing, and you can take a trip to Chici market. Tikal is incredible, and a must dee. I also visited Rio Dulce, Xela and HueHue, but my favorite above all was the small town of Todos de Santos. Guatemala is also a very cheap and good place to learn Spanish. I wish was there today ! Guatemala is a great choice for just about anybody! I was in the Peace Corps there and later returned to live and work on two different occasions for a total of over 8 years. Guatemala has a unique cultural mix of Hispanic and Indigenous cultures, over 50% of the population is of one of the many Mayan ethnic and linguistic groups. The geography is diverse so one may start in the capital, Guatemala City in the center of the country and travel to beaches on either the pacific or Caribbean side, forested mountains, river valleys,the jungles of Peten, or the dryer southeast. From Guatemala you can easily visit neighboring Mexico to the north, Belize to the northeast,or Honduras and El Salvador to the south. |
