What is the best way to minimize jet lag when traveling to Europe and returning to the USA?

Travel Tips
The answer will be quite general as it's hard to be specific not knowing where in Europe and if you live on the East or West coast of the USA. So the time difference could be anywhere from 5 to 10 hours.

Anyways, coming from Europe back to the USA, the problem is that you will feel like bedtime is in the middle of the afternoon and/or you will wake up in the middle of the night.

If you have a heavy schedule in the last few days in Europe, do as you may but if possible, try to ease yourself slowly back to US time by going to bed later and getting up later than usual. Any hours you can adjust that way while still in Europe will be less jet lag once back at home.

Once back at home... well, try to stay up as long as possible during that first afternoon but if you need to sleep, get some real comfortable sleep! not a nap on a couch still in your clothes, that will only make things worse
