Travel Tips
Each person has different opinions. I never travel without travel protection. To me, it is like any other insurance, you never want to buy it, but when you need it, you are glad you have it.

My travel agent has told me, that whenever you are cruising you want it. If you were to get sick or something, the cost to be air lifted off the boat is $20,000+

She also said it is important when flying. With all the security measures now, a lot of planes are delayed. Not to mention weather and other factors. But the insurance will even cover you if your plane is delayed for a certain amount of time, if your luggage is lost, if you get sick during the trip, etc. You only have to cover the part of your trip that isn't refundable. So that may only be your air, I'm not sure if you have a hotel or not, but if it isn't paid or you can get the money back if you need to cancel, you wouldn't need to cover it. So that would bring the cost down.

It also depends when you purchased your air, and when you will be traveling. You may be too close to travel that they won't cover you now.

I always put it on my trips, I've used it several times and been very happy that I had it. Other people don't use it and are happy too. So it just depends which route you want to choose.

Hope this helps!

in my country (macedonia) it is obligatory, many people reacted first, because it is expensive, but since anything could happen, it is good to have it, just in case, it also depends what is covered by it..
Travel insurance is only necessary if you think the plane isn't going to make it - you're betting against yourself living by buying it. It's a great moneymaker for the insurance companies when you consider the US airlines safety record
If I were in your position I would purchase travel insurance for your daughter's friend. Travel insurance comes much further than just the air flight out. The type of plan that I would buy would be one that provides for medical treatment if she were to become sick or injured during her visit and if she were seriously sick or injured would even provide for emergency evacuation back home. These plans can be quite inexpensive. Even though the friend's parents may have medical coverage you can't be sure to what extent it would provide coverage during the visit. It's best to be safe and to minimize any incentive that the parents might have to bring an action against you to recover medical expenses.

I think that you should go for insurance-you never know when you land in trouble and requires assistance.

Better to have one !!
I travel extensively in the U.S. and abroad - I NEVER buy insurance on USA to USA trips and ALWAYS buy travel insurance on overseas trips. The most important element of travel insurance is medical coverage - which in the USA, on an emergency basis, is never a problem.
