Anyone have recommendations for a honeymoon in Bali? |
Travel Info I'm looking specifically for, cheap or reasonably cheap accomodations (it's for a honeymoon!), things to do, things to see, where to stay, etc. I've never been and I am just beginning to look into it so if anyone can at least point me in the right direction it would be awesome. I'm really only interested in things that would be considered off of the beaten path (i.e. things that are not touristy) thanks. Travel Tips I went to Bali for my honeymoon. We stayed at the Conrad Hotel (80 bucks per night), but there are tons of cheaper accomodations available, ranging from 20 bucks to well over 1,000 bucks per day. The following site gives you a good information on cheap accomodations, must visit sites (these places are frequented by tourists, but they are a must visit when you come to Bali) and other useful information you might need (visas, tipping, weather, etc). http://www.balilastminute.com/ If you don't want to keep bumping into tourists, I suggest going during the off-peak season like middle of January (the time I went there, it's quiet, and few tourists). Don't go during the summer school holiday or Christmas holiday. Very packed and you won't get a good bargain on a lot of things. Others I wouldn't go there. Just remember the bombings which they had - you don't want to take the risk. If you want to go to a place which is off the beaten path and is cheap there are many places in Thailand which fit that bill. Thailand is a gorgeous place, very romantic and exotic. The people are friendly, the accommodation is cheap and the food is fantastic. Ko Samoi used to be excellent but may be a bit touristy now but if you go to Cha Am that is really nice. I took the wife there and we had a fabulous time. The Thai royal family like Cha Am but, surprisingly tourists don't get there too much. Best wishes. If you plan to go to Bali I would suggest to go to Ubud which is not near the beaches a bit touristy but with cooler weather and rice paddies. It is also where you would want to shop for art. If you want to stay in the middle of the town you can find places like Komaneka nice. There are quite a few places which have their own pools for privacy. If you do not want to stay in town there are resorts about 5-10 minute drive from town and there is usually a shuttle bus to town every 2 hours. Also, if you want to go to the beach then I would suggest the CandiDasa or Manggis area or even the Lovina area which is not touristy at all. But if you are to stay in that area do not expect shopping or good restaurants. From CandiDasa/Manggis you can go to see the rattan weaving village http://www.99bali.com/ Ubud for quiet place.
