Is Jamaica a safe place to visit? |
Travel Info Is Jamaica a safe place to visit? Travel Tips Hi, take it from a Jamaican. If Jamaica is safe enough to live in, its safe enough to visit. Sad thing is there is bad everywhere in the world, and there's always dishonest people. Contray to belief, you dont have to stay in the "tourist" areas or resort, that defeats the purpose of visiting the country. Things to Do: 1) Travel around the country 2)Vist the many heritage sites and beaches 3) Travel with someone or in groups (apart from for safety, you can get group discounts) 4) Its good if you know someone in the country, saves money and you have more fun. Things NOT TO DO: 1) Dont come for "weed", "marijuana", "hash", "the good stuff" or whatever you call it..you will get in trouble. 2) Dont let anyone you dont know promise you to take you anywhere (like everywhere else in the world) 3)Stay away from Downtown Kingston if you can, it tends to be volatile sometimes for possible political reasons. Finally, believe me, its a really nice place with a great culture, and tourist are often more safe than average Jamaicans because everyone treats them nice and helps them (although they might ask for a tip sometimes), but play it smart and you will be fine. oh and Last thing, the craft vendors in the resort areas, theyre expensive, if you wanna know good stuff to do and places to shop go to www.visitjamaica.com ... One Love! Others sure if your jamaican Well, you do have to be careful if wandering around at night outside of your hotel. Jamaica has beautiful resorts, so if you stay on one, its very safe. If you want to explore Jamaica, you can go with a tour, or take a car outing with a group during the day and ask the people at the resort where to go/what to do. I've been there twice, and I've never wanted to leave the resorts anyway - its a great place to unwind. Is any place in the world safe? Use common sense. people are people - there is both good and bad in all countries. Stay on the resort or 'tourist' areas at night, and be careful. The same applies to Jamaica as it applies to areas in most every city in the civalized world. Jamaica is a GREAT place to go. Modified 1 year ago Again, stay in the resort area, If you venture onto the roads and cities during the day to shop you will constantly be harassed by vendors, but you will surely buy some shell necklaces and croched rasta hats or bags in Jamaican colors, even if you don't want them. Chances are most people will assume you're there to buy ganga...but most likely the worst crime against you would be pickpocketing. At night do't venture out unless you have a Jamaican guide that you can trust...you wouldn't want to go out at night anyway, your presence at a local bar or club would attract a lot of attention and it probably wouldn't be enjoyable anyway. You have all the partying and booze you need at one of the resort, the resort should also have guided shopping trips to markets, so there's really no need to ever venture out alone. |
