How easy is it to travel by bicycle and train in Japan? |
Travel Info How easy is it to travel by bicycle and train in Japan? Travel Tips It is VERY easy. The trains can get you anywhere in the country for a price, and there are always signs in English if you need them, and most train stations have english signs at the ticket stations so you know how much you need to pay to get anywhere, but it is always helpful to have the Japanese name of the place you want to get to so you can match it to the ticket and station signs if you have to or if you can't read Japanese. Japan is also a very bicycle friendly place. In some places you can even bring a bicycle on trains. But there are ALWAYS places to park and lock your bicycles. It is a cheap and easy way to get around. Source(s): Lived in Japan. Other Travel Tips Bicycles use the side walk, very clumsy Train are great very clean and use color coding, signs are very hard to read and to remember, but people are very helpfull Been on vacation in Japan If you mean travelling with a bicycle on trains, then it's certainly possible but be careful that different stations might tell you different things. Officially, you are allowed to take bicycles on trains. However, if it's very crowded or their having a bad day, they might not let you. One thing I'd strongly advise is to have a sheet and safety pins to wrap up the bike before you put it on the train. At the very least, it shows them you know what you are doing. After an exhausting ride one evening, I was told I couldn't take my bike on the train by a miserable guard. I explained I had a sheet to wrap it in and that this had always been acceptable before, and he reluctantly let me board. If you have trouble like this, try the same strategy and as long as you're polite and patient, you should be OK. |
