In the week before Christmas this year, will Disneyland be crowded? |
Travel Info Our boys (ages 3-7) have no school the week before Christmas this year. Should we take them to Disneyland from Dec 17-21? Or will it be really crowded? The other option is LegoLand. Travel Tips Disneyland is really crowded that week, but there are some things that you can do to help. With young children, if you buy a pkg through the disney company, you wll get a pass that will let you into the park one hour early and a second pass that will allow you into toontown one hour before they open the gates there. So, if you plan it right, you can play in fantasyland from 7-8 am, ride the other attractions from 8-9am (when it is not that crowded), take a break for breakfast, and then be ready to take advantage of the early pass into toontown from 10-11. By then, the kids will be tired, and ready for the slower less crowded attractions (e.g., the Tiki Room). That gets you to the afternoon, when it is time for lunch back at the hotel, a nap (and if your 7 year-old is not a napper, a dip in the very heated pool). During the morning, the key is to pick up as many fastpasses as you can so that when you get back to the park in the evening, you can avoid lines (until at least a month ago, they honor "expired" fast passes so long as they are for the same day). Finish up with the parade (the 50th anniversary parade is great) and the fireworks show (ditto). Also key is calling b/f you get there to make reservations for dining. The "sit-down" restaurants in the parks take reservations 30 days in advance and during the week you are talking about, reservations are definitely a must-have. That way you won't be stuck waiting sometimes upwards of an hour to get a sitdown meal. Reservations can be had at the Blue Bayou, Plaza Inn (character's galore), ariel's grotto, the vineyard room and the downstairs restaurant, and all of the restaurants in downtown disney (our kids like Naples Pizza -- you can get pizza, pasta, salads) Finally, California Adventure is always less crowded that Disneyland so it is also a good afternoon option Others It's always crowded in Disneyland the week before Xmas, especially Disneyworld in Orlando, Florida. |
