Travel Info Is it possible to emigrate to the Netherlands from the United States? If so, what is the best way to do so? Travel Tips Immigration is difficult and more so since The Netherlands joined the EU. To get a work permit your potential employer will have to show that you have a critical skill not available from ANY of the EU countries. This has been relaxed a bit for IT skills. You can marry a Dutch national. Under the Dutch-American Friendship Treaty, if you have capital, you can start a business in Holland and move there. You can move there illegally and work "black" (be paid under the table), but that is not recommended. If you can legally live in any EU country, then you can move to The Netherlands. If either of your grandparents were Irish you can get an Irish passport and thus move to The Netherlands. Actually, it is far harder to immigrate to The Netherlands than for a Dutch citizen to immigrate to the United States. Source(s): I lived in Amsterdam for 2 1/2 years recently.
