About how much money would it take for six 18 yr olds to go around the US for about 2 weeks? |
Travel Info Including gas money, food (teens have big appetites), mechanic for the van, Lodging (prolly not alot since we'll be living out of the van) etc. Travel Tips This depends on where you wanted to go. Since you are driving, decide if you want to visit the West Coast (California, Las Vegas, etc), or East Coast (New York, Boston, etc). You would spend 3-5 days driving thru the middle-of-nowhere if you wanted to do both. Either way: Gas is $2.20-$2.50 a gallon. Figure $40-50 a tank (for a big van) will get you 300-400 miles. That means $80-100+ just to drive from Los Angeles to San Francisco. Food: Fast food is $5-10 / meal. Common sit down restraunts are $9-15 / meal (DON'T FORGET TO TIP YOUR WAITRESS 15% IF THEY DO THEIR JOB RIGHT! Their salary is dependent on tips!). High-end restraunts in metro areas can be $20-50+. Mechanic: Most repairs are $150-300. Major engine / transmission repair can be $800-1000. Make sure the van is in good shape before you take it. You could probably rent a cargo van for $500/month, and not have to worry about anything but gas. Lodging: Cheapest hotel / motels are $20-30 in rural areas, $40-50 in the cities. San Francisco and New York are special, in that prices are double normal. Better hotels usually cost $80-100, and have better furniture/services/location/et... If you're living out of the van, CAMPGROUNDS will be your friend. Many have showers / bathrooms, and cost about $10-15 a night for a campsite. Others I agree with the above answer. |
