I agree that it's sooo far away from other cities, but its cosmopolitan enough to call it civilization, and if you like the sun, Perth is Australia's sunniest capital with warm beaches close enough to your possible workplace or residence, you'll go to the beach as casually as you'll go to the park! It is a lovely city, but honestly - when you visit Perth from the east coast it is almost like visiting another country. Unless you have family in Perth, I would consider Melbourne or Brisbane as a new place to settle in Australia. Avoid Sydney - too crowded already and super expensive too. Out of the two, Brisbane has the best weather. Once you have spent some time in any of the capitals you may then get an idea of some of the smaller coastal or regional towns to consider.
