Travel Info Any suggestions for a weekend romantic getaway within 3 hours of the Bay Area? Travel Tips Monterey & Carmel are nice as the other posters have highlighted. So is Napa / Calistoga. But I'd recommend Mendocino. It's on the outer edge of your 3 hour window, but it's worth it. North of SF, on the coast on Hwy 1. You drive through Sonoma and cut across the Alexander Valley. Some great wineries there to stop at. Then thru the redwoods and you hit Hwy 1. It's small, charming, not nearly as touristy as some of the more popular spots around the Bay Area. And rooms are typically cheaper. Bring a sweater cause it can be chilly. Source(s): Had a great weekend with my wife in Mendocino and have been to some of the other places suggested. Other Travel Tips Definately go to Monterrey or Carmel. That is my favorite "get away weekend". Both cities are romantic and perfect for the private weekend. Calistoga. Stay at the Mt. View hotel...great restaurant on site...spas all around, wineries close by, hot-air ballooning...nice getaway. Monterey(spelled with one "r", two "rr" is in Mexico") and Carmel are definately beautiful, I aspire to go back it's so the most, but if you can make Santa Cruz, by all means. |
