What are the nicest areas of San Jose, CA to move to and what bad areas should I stay away from?

I am considering relocating for a job but don't know much about the San Jose area.

Travel Tips
If you have children, you want to focus on the school district and plan on where you are going to live based upon that. Frankly speaking - some schools are superb and some schools are not. The public school system varies from one area to another so it is important to plan where you live accordingly.

The dynamics of the area have changed a lot in the last five years. Some parts of the east side of San Jose used to be a real dump but it is not nearly as bad as it used to be. The same goes for East Palo Alto. I think that property values have changed things quite a bit as people have bought up all the land and redeveloped it into new properties.

My suggestion to you is to hit some websites relating to crime rates in the area, school district performances, and finally - don't forget to hit the sex offender websites because you would be suprised at who is living next door.

Santa Clara was very nice because it put us right in the Cupertino school district (excellent schools) with a central location and excellent housing. Couldn't be beat. however, the pricing was freaking high - as is everything in the bay area. If you plan to purchase a home, you would be paying dearly for it.

Finally, don't just limit your search to San Jose. Check what the nearby cities have to offer too because you will be VERY happy if you take advantage of what everything has available to you. There are things I don't like about the bay area but the excellent weather and the abundance of opportunities are things that I do like. Good luck to you.

Look to the San Jose, Evergreen district, Silver creek hills area is nice.
The Willowglen area and Evergreen area are nice. San Jose is very splotchy, with some nice neighborhoods surrounded by some not so nice neighborhoods. Sunnyvale/mountain view area is much more consistent in levels of niceness, but you pay a premium there.

You could post on SiliconValleyTalk: http://www.siliconvalleytalk.com...

And someone might be able to answer you in more real time. Or another local message board system.
San Jose is cool but like someone else said, look at the surrounding cities too. Santa Clara is really nice, Willow Glen & Campbell too.
Willow Glenn is a really nice place to live in san jose.
