Travel Info Is seattle really an awfully rainy place to live? Travel Tips The amount of rain (in inches) isn't much more than most areas; the difference is that in most places it rains, then it clears up and the sun comes out. Not so in the Pacific Northwest. Often, if it's not raining, it's about to rain. It rains slowly - "showers" - when it drizzles on you for what seems like an eternity. I grew up there, so let me first say that when it's nice, there is no place nicer. Summers (July - mid-September) are usually beautiful. That said, don't plan on seeing the sun much between mid-Oct and early April. It's pretty much cloudy all the time during that time. A lot of people love the weather, and wouldn't live anywhere else. Personally, it drove me nuts. But it never gets below zero or above 100 in Seattle, and it rarely snows. Thunderstorms are a rarity, and you won't have to worry about tornadoes or hurricanes. So every side has its plusses and minuses. Others Today (Dec 29, 2005) is the first morning in eight days straight that it hasn't been raining. But there is more rain in the forecast today. If you want to see for yourself how much it is raining set up the zip code 98148 on yahoo/msn weather. More rain!!! Ahhhh....http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/lo... not sure this will help but I know a bunch of folks that worked for a company that got bought by Amazon. they were required to stay at least a year as part of the deal. after 366 days they all left due to the rain and generally missing the bay area. bottomline I think Seattle is a very cool city but the rain is very hard for lits of folks to deal with if they are new. Oh no, this is more of an urban legend see details below... |
