Travel Info Best cruise excursion in Juneau, Skagway and Ketchikan Alaska in September? Travel Tips Juneau - when you get to port, take the inexpensive blue bus to the glacier. The driver will act as a guide, pointing out things along the way and telling a bit of history. When you get to the glacier, the guides at the interpretive center will provide info on the area, history, and science. Dress to enjoy the trails and paths - things are well-marked and the staff at the center will be happy to point you in a direction that suits you. Skagway - like "Norm" answers, the White Pass trip is super. Ketchikan - we enjoy walking around Ketchikan, but that may not be "excursion-y" enough for the average tourist. My brother-in-law and wife really enjoyed a half-day kayak trip to view wildlife from the water. General tip - you tend to pay more when booking through the cruise line. Instead, I believe it is safe to sign up for an excursion on shore when you reach port. The locals in SE Alaska are proud of their towns and eager to make you feel welcome. Other Travel Tips In Skagway take the White Pass & Yukon rail trip. The best way is to take the train up & the bus back. You get to see more that way & the price is the same. The train turns around & comes back on the same route & the bus, of course, takes the road and you get to see mote sites. Have fun. |
