Travel Tips
Seattle, the city is very expensive - on a par with the Bay Area and parts of LA. Seattle, the city is very PC with a very leftist city government. Other parts of the Seattle Metro area are far more politically realistic with a good balance between left and right. Snohomish County has many communities within commuting range of Seattle as does Pierce County. King County, which Seattle is county seat has a very high cost of livng compared to Snohomish and Pierce Counties.

The Seattle Public Schools are also very, very PC and leftist and scandal ridden.

Others
Seattle is a comparatively expensive city to live in. Real Estate is very expensive, and so consequntly is rent. The Washington State Sales Tax is approximately 9%, which adds to every purchase except groceries. Additionally the public transportation is only adequate making a car nearly a necessity. I would say that $2500 to $3000 (net after tax) income is a minimum for comfortable living, significantly higher if you plan on buying your own home.
I'm guessing you could rent a home in a decent area from anywhere from $1000-1800/month. If you have a mortgage obviously that can vary a lot.
Typically it's a good idea these days to spend no more than 1/3 of your income on housing, and the less the better obviously. You can eat cheap in Seattle, they have great discount grocery stores.
In Seattle traffic can be crazy (in Denver, we have a good system of streets that got through the whole city, whereas in Seattle, with all the water, ports, and mountain-like hills it's hard to find thru streets thus making highway travel inevitable), so it'd be best to live close to work. Gas prices are HIGH here right now.

I agree with the previous poster of having at least a monthly income for your family of no less than $3000.
