Is Tacoma, WA a good place to live?

Travel Tips
Every city has its ups and downs. Like other answerers have said, there are good spots and bad spots in Tacoma.

Likewise, you'll want to consider which school you want to attend. Tacoma Public Schools allows you to attend any school within the district, even if it's outside your neighborhood (you may need to provide your own transportation). If you're interested in journalism, consider asking your parents to help you research which schools have better classes or extracurricular activities that suit your writing talents. i lived there for about 4 years. i miss it now. there alot of graet places to live and things to do.
I would say it depends on which neighborhood in Tacoma you're talking about. But, the same can be said for Seattle. Personally, I'd stay away from the South Hill area. The Puget Sound region in general is a wonderful place to live. You're only about an hour from the mountains, 2 hours to the desert (Eastern side of the State) or 3-1/2 hours to the ocean. There's lots of things to do and see here no matter if you're into outdoor stuff or going to concerts or plays or even the movies. I hope this helps you.
My hometown and birthplace---other questions should be asked. Do you mind the rain? The humid cold soaks right into the bones. I have heard that 60 % of the world`s population live within 40 miles of the ocean. IMHO,most of the coastal northwest Pacific cities are exemplary places to live. Tacoma has fewer people than Seattle or Portland, and its` downtown strip ( Pacific Avenue) has undergone much renovation,as well as the tidal flats. Like ocean? Like clamming and catching fish,or riding the ferryboats? The ferry to Vancouver,British Columbia is awesome,as are the many, many waterways and islands in northwest Washington. Love Mt.Rainier, driving on the beach, and going to Pike St. Market in Seattle
I am from the seattle area and i am not biased but
NO TACOMA IS NOT A GOOD PLACE TO LIVE

CRIME, CRIME CRIME
They did a survey for the best place in washington to live..
tacoma was number 2.

I just laughed.
Anything south of seattle...is not a good place to live.
i dont know why..it just is
OKAY! I live 20 minutes south of Tacoma... yeah it's ghetto!
Tacoma is stereo-typed to a degree. There are the yucky parts. Like the gang parts, the ran down places, the drug parts (spanaway, lakewood, near the tacoma mall) there is crime there but then again! It has it's BEAUTIFUL places! Like down by the water, if you've ever seen the movie "10 things I hate about you" it was filmed at a school in Tacoma.

Tacoma is a great place if you can get past the ghetto parts! It's a half hour from Seattle and about 2 1/2 hours from Portland OR :-)
