Should I move to Seattle or Chicago?

Travel Info
I live in San Jose and it is mostly an international community, flowing veils, head garb, many languages, etc. I am looking for a city that is more American than international, but is still diverse. It is an earshot within fun nightlife, music, and restaurants, but also quiet clean suburbs. (BTW I am SWM, late 30's, straight. Most of my friends date and marry Asian girls here in San Jose because it is primarily an Asian community. I do prefer the SWF midwestern look).I do not mind clouds and rain - friendliness of the people and good feel for the city is much more important to me than weather. I have heard good things about Seattle, but mostly nature and not people. I have heard great things about Chicago, both culture and people. People are telling me Seattle people are more distant and the city is not as clean and well kept as Chicago. I am ready to just bolt this month! Please provide suggestions/feedback to help me find a city where I can call home and have a sense of belonging.

Travel Tips
Any time you move to ANY new city it takes a bit to meet people and get settled in; looking for housing or jobs is always the same sorts of process. Both cities have a good amount of nightlife, restaurants, theaters, shopping, fun... Seattle of course is gorgeous physically (and is fun for outdoor stuff like hiking, snowboarding and going out on the water) as well as the city life. It's also a little bit smaller city that hasn't sprawled too badly and with generally friendly people (though, like anywhere, you have to get out to meet them and make a bit of an effort). On the other hand it definitely still has that Asian influence and has the West coast feel...if you're wanting to leave that then obviously Chicago would have more of a midwestern feel and being that it's a larger city and with a diverse history it may be more of the mix you're looking for. There's also several more universities in Chicago and some areas have awesome nightlife... Weather wise (though you said you don't care)-Chicago is much, much hotter and humid in the summer (not a fan myself) and colder in the winter...but it also affords a wider variety of seasons. Seattle, though it has the rainy title or whatever, really isn't that rainy. What it IS actually is overcast and drizzly a lot of the time...some people hate it, I don't mind it or am otherwise indifferent...and like the milder winters and temperate summers. In any case, why not visit the cities? walk around and see what people act like and the traffic and history and buildings and culture...and generally just see if you like the "vibe." It's the non-quantifiable quality that either clicks with you or doesn't... I like both cities, but Seattle is just amazing! Other Travel Tips
It sounds like you already are interested in Chicago. The Cost of Living in Chicago is less than Seattle. Seattle has an ocean but Chicago has a great lake. Many things to weigh.
chicago its a great place it has great outing places to go to
I would tend towards Chicago but that's because I'm only about an hour from the city. The nightlife and restaurants are great. There are plenty of clean suburbs surrounding the city. Always something to do, museums, theater, music.
I would say Seattle because it is really nice there and the nature is beautiful.
You have a tough decision to make because both cities are great. Personally, I prefer Seattle. It's not as populated and there is so much to do both indoors and outdoors.
