Should I move to Seattle from Atlanta next year?

Travel Info
I am 25 year old Black female who wants to move out
West next year when I finish grad school. I am looking
at Seattle and Portland as possibilities but I was
wondering how the dating scence is for single Black
women. I am open to dating outside my race as well.
Other factors are that I want to live in a "walking
city" with a good arts scene that has liberal minded
people- I want to live in a blue state!

Travel Tips
People geographically from Salem, OR to Seattle, WA are typically very open minded and friendly. The mantra seems to be that if you are friendly to them, they are friendly to you - despite race, religion, nationality, or color.

Both Portland and Seattle have an arts scene, but Portland has friendly and safe public transportation and not as many hills in the downtown area. There, in general, are also alot less homeless people in the main downtown areas. Seattle has more of a big city vibe and Portland still manages to maintain a somewhat small town vibe (living in big city clothes).

Washington has no state income tax and Oregon has no sales tax. Living on the border of the two is a great way to take advantage of both. Vancouver WA is about 10 minutes from Downtown Portland and is slowly growing into a nice, arty, cultured, middle class suburb.

Good luck to you whatever you decide!

Others
I lI've in Washington....but ive lived in Oregon too. I think Portland Ore. has always been more artsy and has more decent and variety of music venues. Washington is good too, But from you're question I'd suggest Oregon (Either way no hurricanes!:)
YES!!!
Definitely! No Question about it!!! Hi, I'm Fay of faysdaze@verizon.net You have the ocean, Columbia River Gorge where famous music ans play every summer! Camping, Fishing, hiking, snow sports! Green lush forests within 2 hours drive. Never get bored sooo much to do. Weather here in summer from 56 degrees at night up to 80+ degrees in the summer. Not too cold not too hot. We get hardly little rain, hot weather August and part of September, around the 85-90's! I costs a bit more to live here, but we don't have massive snows of the Upper East Portion of the US! No Hurricanes, a rare Tornado in Eastern Washington farming region but only Level 1 Tornado's. You'll be OK "Dorothy and Todo!" No massive flooding, except where you live by the tons of rivers here. We have Whale watching, Gray Whales and Orcas! Boating, Canada only a few hours drive! You're gonna love it here!
A young black woman will thrive on the lifestyle of downtown Seattle, settle in the Green Lake area of Seattle, or near the Woodland Park Zoo, close to all the arts, music, people, MEN!
Successful men too! We have museums of all kinds, librarys, Gallerys all over the place. Seattle is an ""Artists" town. Portland is more lade back, and much much smaller. Seattle's the town for you!
You would like Seattle - the walking is Great.
Bring an Umbrella. Seattle has a lot more Culture than Portland. Seattle has a brand new Opera House and a brand new Symphony Hall. The Art Museum is being expanded.
The scenery is spectacular, Mountains, Ocean,
Lakes, Forests, Rivers. San Juan Islands and Whistler, and Victoria.
I'm biased, but you should move to the Seattle area. I have lived here my entire life and a lot of my family lives out in the Portland area. I hate it in Portland! Seattle is way better and way more beautiful. I have always thought that Portland had a grungy feel to it. Seattle is excellent for the artsy types and there are plenty of dating possibilities. As far as the rain goes, Seattle and Portland have pretty much the same amount. Trust me, Seattle is the best choice for you.
