Where to live in Seattle?

Travel Info
My husband and I are considering a move to Seattle. He works as a software developer and there seems to be a good job market for this there, is that true? We would like to live in the suburbs, can you recommend good areas? We have looked at Redmond, Bellevue and Sammamish, but they seem a little expensive. We have also looked at the Tacoma area, but although the prices are reasonable I have read some negative things. We would like to be able to buy a house and I don't think we could afford more than 350k, unless my husband gets a really good paying job there. We aren't sure where he would get a job but he would really like a short commute. I would like a safe neighborhood with malls, outlets, etc. nearby. Random side note, are there a lot of bridges in Seattle? I haven't driven on a lot of them, but the idea of it is kind of scary to me.

Travel Tips
There definitely is a job market for software developer here. Microsoft of course is based out of Redmond and Amazon is also local here as well as many many others. I am engineer though and not a software developer so I really couldn't tell you about the software opportunities here. (I can tell you that engineers are really in demand though)
As far as where to live-much of that depends on where you'll want t o work. Seattle metro is pretty pricey and so is Bellevue/Redmond/Issaquah. One nice area that is a little bit more reasonable is the Bothel-Woodinville area. These are very family oriented and quiet- a little further from the city but not far enough away to be a nuisance. I would probably steer clear of Tacoma and Everett. These areas are not all bad, but the commute is treacherous. (my opinion here, I've commuted both ways and prefer to live a little closer) Tacoma has some very nice areas tough and believe it or not, so does Everett if you don't mind the traffic. If you are going to live on the East side (Bellevue, Kirkland, Redmond, Issaquah) expect to pay 300K+ for a house. It looks like the market is finally starting to level off, but it is high.
As far as bridges, there are a couple, but they aren't scary :)

Others
Newcastle, Renton, Federal Way, are more reasonable.
Ballard is awesome
In regards to bridges there are quite a few of them in Seattle......but you get used to them and crossing the floating bridges on a sunny day can be very nice, as long as you dont hit traffic.

P.S. A floating bridge is a bridge that floats on pontoons that are anchored to the bottom of the lake
WarrenC has a good idea in suggesting Ballard.
Ballard or Magnolia would be good places to live but a long commute to Redmond (Microsoft). If your husband can get a job at Microsoft, its better to live in Redmond or Bellevue. I agree that you should avoid Tacoma, Federal Way, and Everett.
