Travel Info I'm moving to seattle washington.. would a tsunami hit there? Travel Tips If there is one it would be relatively small since Seattles coast is to the Puget Sound and wouldnt have that much room to build up a big enough wave to really impact hard. Others While it is somewhat possible that a small tsunami could strike the Puget Sound due to the Seattle Fault that runs through it (as has happened in the distant past), it is unlikely. Because Seattle is not located on the coast, tsunamis generated in the Pacific would primarily effect just the coastline of the State (where tsunami warning systems are in place) and not hit the Seattle area. I have a minor in Earth and Space Sciences from the University of Washington The air u breathe in some US cities is deadlier. Just go on Seattle is a lovely city. I would do anything to be in your place. Too much rain though cheers I recently watched the Discovery Channel special on research done after the Indian Ocean tsunami. According to their data, an earthquake capable of triggering a tsunami off the West Coast would leave Seattle in ruins. Apparently any waves that reach into Puget Sound will be of secondary concern! In any case, Seattle is a stunningly beautiful city. I hope you enjoy it! i wish it would!!! FORGET A TSUNAMI!!! We're waiting for "THE BIG ONE" here. 8.0 or better earthquake. We've been hearing about it for years! ;-) |
