Is Olympia, Washington a good place to live??? |
Travel Info My wife and I are possibly moving to Olympia for work and I wanted to get an idea of what kind of place it is and what there is to do. We love the outdoors, sports, bars, and coffee houses. Is it a safe place? Fun place? Does it smell there? Thanks in advance! Travel Tips It's about 1 1/2 hours from the beach and has lots of outdoor activities nearby. I've never noticed that it smelled when I drove through. You would be close to Tacoma and Seattle is a little further north so lots of concerts and sporting events you could go to if that's your interest. Everywhere in Washington has lots of coffee places. I live in a little town -- we don't have a real grocery store anymore but there are at least 4 places to get espresso. Others yes, oly is a great place to live. it is a really safe city with a lot of outdoor activities. downtown oly is a great place to walk around, stop in at small coffee houses, restaraunts, and local shops. the boardwalk downtown is always a nice afternoon or evening walk. and no, it does not smell in oly!!! there is tons of stuff to do outdoors in the puget sound region. coffee is the best, football and baseball, are big here. thre are tons of camping spots around the region, and even at the beach west of olympia. it doesn't smell bad here. it's safe. Having never been there, take my comment for what it's worth, but IMO I'd think anywhere in Washington State is a good place to live. May not live anywhere close to Washington but as a fan of the Seahawks, Cougars and Mariners I follow what goes on in the state pretty closely. The Oly area is an excellet area to live. Not too big, not too small. An hour and a half from the beaches. An hour from the mountains. An hour and a half from Seattle (depending on the time of day). Can't go wrong with that choice. Olympia Washington. One would think with being such a prestigous city, the crime rate would be lower, the homeless rate lower, and employment higher. Sadly, because the city thrives on dollars spent by our legislators and tourist, it does not always thrive real well. The freeway is a mess 99% of the time. Then again, it is everywhere in Washington. If you end up working in Olympia, Have you considered checking out the Yelm area. I come from Vashon Island, Bremmerton, PortOrchard, West Seattle, and now Ashford near Mt Rainier. If you don't mind a bit of a commute, housing prices are cheaper elsewhere as well. It isn't a bad city... I just wouldn't over glorify it. |
