Where to go and what to do in Seattle, WA? |
Travel Info we will be visiting 8/06 Travel Tips Here is what I posted for someone else who asked the same question a couple of days ago: There's loads to do in Seattle, and August is a perfect time to visit weather-wise. Here are a few: Visit Pike Place Market (free unless you buy something) Visit the Chittenden Locks in Ballard (also free and the most-visited spot in Seattle according to my mom) Check out Seattle Center (where the Space Needle is... I think it costs about $15 to go up to the observation deck) Take the Underground Tour that begins at Doc Maynards in Pioneer Square (I don't know the cost) Hit the beach at Alki or Golden Gardens (free) Take a ferry ride to Bainbridge Island (I don't know the cost) Tour the UW campus (April is the best time because the cherries are in bloom, but it's a beautiful campus any time of year... you might have to pay a couple bucks to park and to get into the Burke Museum if you choose, but wandering is free) Take in a baseball game at Safeco Field... the food is great even if the Mariners aren't (tickets range from $7 for bleachers to like $55) Check out some of the shops and restaurants on the waterfront (there's an actual mummy at Ye Olde Curiosity Shoppe on Pier 54) Check out Argosy Cruises... they have a bunch of lunch, dinner and themed cruises with varying price tags (if you're here during Seafair, they have a couple of Blue Angels cruises where you can watch the performance from the lake) Take the Ride the Ducks amphibious tour... it starts at Seattle Center, I think (and is probably overpriced!) Others Go to the original Starbucks, and go visit Bruce and Brandon Lee's graves. Space Needle, Science Center, Pike Place Market, Alki Beach, Gas Works Park, Greenlake, Boeing Tour........ Go to Pike Place Market and see the Space Needle. Also, travel around Washington if you have time. There are beautiful forests and great museums around. Of course you must visit a Starbucks, and maybe you can drive by the Microsoft Headquarters (it isn't a typical tourist destination, but it certainly is a conversation starter). Pike street fish market. Mt Rainier. Take the ferryboat to somewhere on Puget Sound. Go up in the Space Needle. Don't go to Seattle, it will be raining (more like misting really). Stay away. Tourist stay away. It's beautiful in Seattle that time of year! In addition to the other hot spots (mentioned below) in Seattle: Whidby Island (take a ferry from Mukilteo - 40 minutes north of Seattle); a walk along the downtown waterfront (Ivars for the best clam chowder!), the naval base in Everett and.or Bainbridge Island - Alki Beach for sure! Take in a Mariners baseball game. Look for Bill Gates house on Lake Washington. Have fun - it's a gorgous city! |
