Travel Info Why does it rains so much in seattle? Travel Tips Our typical western jet-stream off the Pacific Ocean brings a mixture of high and low weather fronts that converge over Western Washington, slamming into the Cascade mountains. When the fronts have a combination or pockets of moisture, warm air, and cold air, water releases known as rain. Much like some of the other responses, the rain is very different from other parts of the United States. Usually a light sprinkle/drizzle vs. sudden downpours of the mid-west/eastern areas of the US. We usually ask mother nature to release the valve (rain) when Californians move up here and jack up the real estate prices (more of a local joke). Others Moist air from the pacific is pushed against the Rockies to the east and as it cools you get rain. it's not raining right now. it does not rain that much here. many other cities get more rain then seattle. it is a very nice city, but we don't want to have hordes of people moving here. so we created a few myths to scare people away. The Cascade Mountains (a bit east of Seattle) trap the clouds. It hardly ever rains, but it is misty/cloudy/drizzly most of the year. We trap the clouds to keep the Californians out. Seattle Native it doesn't rain as much as people think it's just cloudy all the time Because of the weather. In July and August, it doesn't rain that much but it's hot as hell. |
