From San Francisco to Seattle by Train?

Travel Info
I am considering going to Seattle from San Francisco by Train instead of flying. I want to know if anyone has done that?

What's the cost?

How long does it take?

Is that a way you can work in the train with your laptop (Wireless connection?)

Travel Tips
It's a nice ride, though the sanfrancisco to eugene portion of it can be rather crowded. For most part there are not places to plug in a laptop, and there is no wireless, perhaps briefly through some towns, but it never worked for me.

Here would be my suggestion .. book your trip in two parts .... it shouldnt cost too much more.....

1) from san francisco to eugene. That would be on the Coast Starlight, the regular long distance route and coach along the West Coast.

2) from Eugene to Seattle on the Amtrak Cascades, a commuter train that travels between Eugene and Vancouver, BC. The cars are nicer and newer, the seats roomier, and there are electrical outlets for every set of seats! It's not as crowded and its a pleasant trip.

a bus ride from san francisco you catch it at the pier "ferry building" to emeryville then on a train to seattle nice trip i rode on amtrak in a sleeper nice sceanery enjoyed the whole trip the attendants were very nice plus meals in dining car were included in the sleeper train price. its about a day that night and then another half a day. in the certain cities that have a wireless connection with no security on it but they are usually only at coffee shops and some mc donalds also usually in downtown san francisco for example
It all depends your personal preferences. If you are on a time constraint, and looking for the quickest route, train is not for you. You can take the starlight amtrak which runs along the entire pacific coast, from Seattle to San Diego. You get a nice view of the coastline, and no hassle with airport check-in lines etc. go to amtrak.com and check out the schedules to view trip duration times $ cost, etc.
the coast starlight could get you here, but it is late all the time. get off in eugene and ride the cascades, if you are able to. they are a much nicer ride.
The problem to go to Oakland from Seattle is that tracks are owned by Union Pacific and they are doing a lot of trackwork and bad train dispatching so the Coast Starlight is ever late.

There is a notice in the website telling that until December 2006 the train can be delayed by UP.

Trip time is 23 h 58 min.

Cost is US$ 131 by coach full fare, but if you purchase in advance US$ 84.

You can go in sleeping car, that it麓s expensive but very comfortable. You can work with your laptop but there is no wireless connection as far as I know, you must use a cell phone but in the mountains I think that can be difficult.
