I am planning to go to Seattle this Christmas. Can you please share your opinion and experiences? |
Travel Info How is the weather in Seattle during that time? Is it a good vacation spot during this time? What can I do there during that season? Thanks. Travel Tips I don't live in Seattle, but I travel there a lot for school. The weather at Christmas is normally rainy (what can I say, it's Washington!), but the rain tends to be fairly light. You don't need an umbrella unless you'll be walking several blocks. In the winter, it's normally freezing in the morning, then temperate in the afternoon. I normally wear jeans, a t-shirt, and a jacket in the winter, so that should do fine, except for the few rare days in January/February that have some snow on the ground. Places I tend to go when visiting Seattle are: * The Space Needle -- $14 for adult, $7 for youth; if you want, you can get a day & night ticket to go up twice and see it once during day and once at night. It's open from 9am to midnight everyday, and there is a revolving restaurant (really nice, formal) at the top where I ate for my Sweet 16. If you're going to do anything in Seattle, I'd recommend going to the Space Needle at least once. It's one of Seattle's most distiguished landmarks for a reason. *Pacific Science Center -- Not just for kids, this interactive museum has a Butterfly Garden, two IMAX theatres, a planeterium, and laser light shows (I went to a Beatles one! Quite fun!) *Other Seattle Center features include the Centerhouse, which has a huge food court (You've got to try Seattle Fudge!), artwork, the Experience Music Project, a monorail, an amusement park, and many concerts and events. *Seattle Aquarium -- I absolutely love this place! It is really big, and really amazing. $12.50 for adults. There is SO much to see! They also have a IMAX theatre. In Seattle, there are also cruises out on the bays (gorgeous, but not recommendable on a winter day), art museums, theatre, Pacific Northwest Ballet, The Museum of Flight, and lots of small shops. Really, there is such an abundance of activity, you may have trouble choosing what to do in your limited time. While I was looking this up for you, I found out about a City Pass. For $36 an adult, this pass features admission to the Seattle Aquarium, Argosy Seattle Harbor Cruise, Pacific Science Center, Woodland Park Zoo and the Museum of Flight, good over a nine day span it sounds like. There are a lot of different deals out there, depending on what you want, and how hard you look. Best of luck on your time in Seattle. You can still do the same things in the winter as the summer there. I liked the Seattle Science Center Take in a game at Qwest Field and see the NFC champion Seahawks play the San Diego Chargers. Christmas isn't the best time to visit because the weather isn't the most desirable. It will be chilly and overcast and probably drizzle at least once a day if not more. But, the city is used to this kind of weather and has adapted accordingly. There are lots of things to do if the weather outside isn't the greatest so you should still have a great time. Try EMP, the Seattle Aquarium, Pike Place Market, Pacific Place, and any number of coffee shops. There is a great big Barnes & Noble on Pine and 7th (?) that you can stop in and flip through tons of Seattle guidebooks if you aren't sure what to do when you get here. Have fun. I live here! |
