In Seattle housing what does Mother in Law and Rambler mean?

Travel Info
I know this sounds like a strange question but I am not from Washington. In alot of the ads for rent alot of the housing say "Mother in law" quarters or "Ramblers". Just need some clarity.

Travel Tips
Timothy S is probably right but if your counti8ng on the basement... be sure to ask.

Mother-in-Law means a bedroom/bath/cooking facilities are available. Could be one room with a 1/2 bath.. so the quality of the mother-in-law facilities do vary from fully loaded ammenities to bare necessities. Some in Washington are a basement apartment, some can be a cottage with a breezeway attachment to the main house.

Rambler use to mean a single level home that could be "L" or "U" shaped instead of a long rectangle. Many times the bedroom area is at one side of the house and the Kitchen at the other. Rambler being an older term may signal that the master bedroom is not going to be one one side of the home while the other bedrooms are on the other side for privacy.

Others
mother-in-law quarters would be like a couple extra rooms in a house, with its own entrance, where your mother-in-law could live and be part of the household, but still have her privacy.

A rambler is a one story home, referred to in some places as a ranch, though usually a bit smaller. Here's a link to a picture of a house listed as a rambler:

A rambler is a long or large place you can get lost in. Yes mom knows
well i went to real estate school. never finished it. but i do remember the word, " mother in law".
i think that is when the owner wants a partner to help him pay for that house or rent. not sure. or it could be that the owner died and the house will be transfered to another realative. oh whatever. i dont know. you can always google the word.
Mother-in-law quarters means that there is a separate building or part of the house where, for example, a mother-in-law could live and you (and her) can still have your privacy. A rambler is a one-story home that is spread out (I think).
Mother in Law quarters is a small apartment ususally considered for elderly parents who need some help but not to live in an assisted living conditions.

Ramblers are one story houses
mother-in-law is much smaller quarters than a rambler. Also, the first is usually a separate "small" apartment.
