What is the best (cheapest way to travel from singapore to - south korea, vietnam, bangkok, tibet, etc.? |
Travel Info are there any trains or ferries connecting the major countries or cities? Travel Tips Those countries are really spread out. There are ferries and boats for some local trips, but not between countries (though I did take one between Korea and Japan, they are quite close). If you really want to see all of those places, I would just buy a multiple-flight pass on Singapore Airlines, Thai Airways, or All Nippon Airlines (based in Osaka, but has some interesting routes in Asia). Sometimes they sell passes that allow you a certain # of flights in the region, or Singapore Air used to sell "round-the-world" tickets which allow you to string together your own itinerary. For those other countries, though, I think that Bangkok would be a good geographic base, and Thai Airways could probably help you get to most destinations. I'd don't know how else you can do those trips other than by flight, although from Thailand it is sometimes possible to do an overland border crossing to Laos (which I've done) and Cambodia (requires a visa on arrival, and you have to bribe the border guards if you don't want to wait). It may be possible to make oyur way overland to Vietnam from one of those countries, but these are not established travel routes for many foreigners and you may be a lot better off flying if you want to maximize your time. In my experience, trains in Asia take forever and are only good for shorter in-country trips. I would hate to do country-to-country travel via train; you'd be talking about weeks to get from one place to another. Source(s): Get a copy of the Lonely Planet travel guide (available in bookstores) ofr the countries you are interested in most (SE Asia may cover most of that). They tell you budget ways to get to and from most places. Other Travel Tips if you're looking for absolutely the cheapest, then you'll want to combine bus, train and some ferries... flights are reasonable and you should consider the time/cost equation before making a decision... go to a local travel agency and do some digging... wait till you get to your local destination before making your next reservation, i.e., get to bangkok and book your next trip from there... it's cheaper... same in vietnam, tibet... you might want to map out a route from farthest east or west to the other orientation... tibet, bangkok, vietnam, south korea for example... it'll save you money if you don't have to back trace |
