What are the most interesting places to visit, see, and do?

Of course, the Arch is a great place to visit. While you are downtown, there is really neat (but small) shopping mall at Union Station, which is about 15 blocks away. Union Station features great architecture (be sure to take a look inside the Hyatt Regency's lobby while you're there!) Adjacent to the Arch is Laclede's Landing, which features some really great restaurants and night clubs. My personal favorite is the Old Spaghetti Factory because you get a really great meal for a good price in an interesting setting. After dinner you can take a carriage ride because right outside the Old Spaghetti Factory is where the horses wait for riders.

Someone suggested the Magic House. That is a great place to visit if you have kids because there are quite a few unusual hands-on-activities. A short drive from the Magic House is the Museum of Transportation, which is an awesome place to visit if you are into trains. They exhibit trains from many eras that you get to tour. The museum also features a small train ride for children and adults. The museum is outdoors, so plan accordingly.

Another wonderful outdoor exhibit is Laumeier Sculpture Park. It is right at Interstate 44 and 270 off of Watson. Wear good walking shoes if you plan on going because you will walk all over the natural setting and sometimes be surprized by the sculptures you come upon in unexpected places. My kids have loved going there since they were very young, but when I'm there I see people from all walks of life and all age groups playing in the park-like setting.

But don't forget the museums in Forest Park and the Zoo. The art museum is an easy walk from the zoo. If you visit during the summer, you should plan to visit the zoo early in the day (some exhibits are free if you get there early) and then walk over to the art museum for lunch and to look around during the heat of the afternoon.

We live right near a wonderful shopping center about 30 minutes from downtown, the St. Louis Mills. The mall is huge and features something for everyone, including: an ice skating rink, bumper boats, a NASCAR racetrack, glow-in-the-dark putt putt, a high-class bowling alley, a children's play area, and lots of great shopping. If you go, plan to spend at least three hours and wear good walking shoes.

One of my favorite places to visit has always been Meramec Caverns, which is about an hour-and-a-half away from St. Louis. It is past Six Flags along Interstate 44.

There are also several casinos in the St. Louis region. One is directly across from the Arch. Two others are about a five minute drive from St. Louis Mills. (You can spend all your money at the Mills during the day and hope to win it all back that evening!)

About a half-an-hour from St. Louis is a place called St. Charles. Old Town St. Charles (right off of Interstate 70) is historic because it is where Lewis and Clark set off on their expedition along the Missouri River. There is a museum along the river. My favorite thing to do there is visit the shops and restaurants along main street. Again, wear good walking shoes and plan to spend a few hours. If you are into bicycling, you can park in St. Charles and pick up the Katy Trail, which is a bike/pedestrian trail that crosses the whole state of Missouri. But, be advised, if you are looking at the river and trying to decide which way to go on the trail, go right (west). The trail is more interesting in that direction and you will have more options about five or six miles down the trail when another bike trail from a county park meets the Katy Trail.

Finally, across the Mississippi River over in Cahokia, Illinois, is a place called Cahokia Mounds. CM is special because it is listed on the World Heritage List, the list that includes such illustrious places like the Pyramids at Giza and the Acropolis in Athens. Cahokia was a huge community of mound-building Native Americans dating back to around 700 AD. Many well-preserved artifacts were found among the mounds and are housed in a spectacular museum on the grounds. Make sure that you watch the free film in the visitor center. The award-winning film is so powerful that it will give you chills. If you visit during the summer months and plan to visit the top of Monk's Mound, which features a great view of the St. Louis skyline, please be advised to bring bottled water. The climb to to top can weary even the most athletic among us.

Hope this helps you in your decision about what to do!

go to the gateway arch. you can go to the top on an elevator. you could also go to the various lewis & clark museums around and theres a six flags theme park I've lived in the area
The arch was a blast...there's a lot more to it than just the arch itself. We also found a wilderness/nature facility off one of the main interstates - the name escapes me right now, sorry - that was a lot of fun. The zoo is fantastic, even if you're not much of a zoo type person. We also really enjoyed Union Station...it is great for shopping & eating. They also have a museum about the history of the dog which was really cool as well as an old railroad museum. We didn't make it to the railroad museum on either of our trips but plan to go on our next visit.

Have fun!!
The Arch is pretty fun but not the best
If you come during the summer time come see a show at The Muny. If you don't kow the muny is the largest outdoor theatre in the US. St. Louis' zoo is one of the nicer zoos in the country. If you have kids visit the magic house or the city museum. The new Busch stadium is being built right now so that would be really cool! (If you like baseball)

I hope you enjoy your trip!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I grew up near St. Louis, and we always loved going to the Magic House, which is a children's interactive science museum of sorts... Forest Park is very good- there is an art museum and the science center, and the zoo in St. Louis has free admission and is pretty big. Downtown is the City Museum, which has industrial art and children's activities. The riverfront is supposed to be cleaned up now and safer (I haven't been there in a while). Also sports in St. Louis include the Blues, Rams, and Cardinals. Several of the surrounding communities were French settlements and have interesting history and architecture. Also there is the Lemp Mansion, which is haunted and has a dinner theater. It used to be a brewery. You can take tours of the Busch brewery. They make amazing Italian food in a neighborhood called The Hill. There is so much more to St. Louis than the Arch.
Attend any of the sporting events. Cardinal Baseball, Ram's Football, Blues Hockey. All are great.............
