It depends on what part of town you want, and what price range. I like the Westin downtown, and the Marriot there is also pretty good, as the answer above says.

I would suggest either the Mellinium downtown or the Adam's Mark.
The best hotel in St. Louis, in my humble opinion, is the Ritz-Carlton in Clayton. They've just finished an extensive refurbishment (to the tune of $10 million), and its conveniently located off Forest Park Pkwy. The beds at the Ritz are to die for. They're the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. And the level of service delivered by the ladies and gentlemen of the Ritz-Carlton St. Louis is exceptional. Whenever I came down the elevator, I was greeted by name by one of the staff.

I particularly recommend the Club Level. It costs an extra $100 per night but it kicks the service up a few notches, including five food and beverage presentations each day in the Club Lounge.

Every room at the Ritz Carlton has a balcony with fantastic views.
