St. Louis south city?

Travel Info
I am not from STL but I have been there. I've seen the north city and I must admit some parts I saw were in bad shape. I want to know if the south city is as bad as the north city? (crime and appearance)

Travel Tips
i live in south city and the appearance is wayyyyyyyyyy better. and its not as much crime. i live in the shaw nieghborhood and its by far the best.

I think its not the town you are in its the people, i am in the south county area, and there are hoosiers everywhere, i personally work in the city and the people seem to be more friendly there then where i live..
The rule in south city is stay away from the areas with streets named after states and indians. In the city stay West of Grand Avenue and ideally west of Kingshighway between I-55 and I-64. Cental West End from Grand to Kingshighway and between I-64 to Delmar interesting and unusual demographics - very rich and very poor in same neighborhoods. Great architecture in the buildings, great restaurants, but crime is a problem in the area - hence a lot of gated streets / neighborhoods and private security.

You'll have a better experience when you move into the suburbs to the south and especially to the west.
Lifelong resident.
I live in south city and it is night and day from north city. I live in Carondelet park/Holly Hills area. It's beautiful and the park is amazing! There is still petty crime here, though. I just learned to leave my car unlocked at night.
