What is it like living in St Louis? Is it very reasonable to live there as for as renting an apt, etc.?

Travel Info
I'm thinking about relocating there within a yr or two and was just wondering what it's like. I live in Omaha, NE and it's boring here and there's nothing to do even for children. I need to relocate somewhere so my son can have a good time. Please give me your feed back on St Louis or Kansas City. Thanks

i have lived in many places in the US,,,,

St Louis or KC would be two of the lowest on my list of choices.... they are less expensive to live in for a reason.

Minneapolis would be a much better choice..... for a great number of reasons.

St. Louis is definitely reasonable, it just depends on where you go. There's plenty to do for adults and children. Such as Busch Stadium, Rams, Blues, Art Museum, Science Center, Zoo, The Muny, The Fox, always something going on. You only get bored here if you stop trying.
I've lived here all my life, so it's hard for me to compare it to anywhere. I have to say, though, when I talk to my friends who have moved away, our cost of living is MUCH better than other cities. Probably comparable to Kansas City. For instance, in Chicago most people middle class live in the suburbs and barely make it downtown except a couple times a year. In St. Louis, rent in the city or county is very reasonable.

There is tons of stuff for kids here, too. My recommendation if you move here would be to join the YMCA in your area (South County is good). There are TONS of activities for kids, and especially for the summer when there is no school.
I will be moving to St. Louis as well. I also have a child. I have been to St. louis many times and every time i go there is always something going on. The cost of living is cheaper than most. As far as renting apt, let me just tell you that EVERY single landlord has an application fee of $30-$50 non refundable. St. Louis is a nice city. The zoo, museum and many activities are free. They also have a huge park (bigger than Central Park in NYC) named Forest Park.

St. Louis has a free zoo, art museum, history museum

There is a magic house and a city museum, a dog museum, lots of water parks and swimming pools

Lots of free activities and events geared toward children

TONS of great resturants. almost all the places in the entertainment book are great to eat at. www.entertainment.com and check out St. Louis, MO for the places.

Childrens Hospital and Cardinal Glennon Hospital and Shriners Hospital are all for children
If your from Nebraska you probably will like St. Louis. To you there probably will be a lot of stuff to do. I am from Florida and I don't like it and there is not very much for me to do here.
The cost of living is average with other towns this size in the U.S. However, since there is no new industry and businesses are downsizing and moving don't expect to get a great job here unless you know someone.
If I had kids I wouldn't want to raise them here because there is not much to broaden their horizons.
To me St. Louis is a run down dirty city with a bunch of abandon buildings. Some one who has lived here all their life or has never been anywhere will think it is great.
