What is the best area/hotel to stay in Sydney, Australia for the first time going there?

Travel Tips
If you stay in a hotel in or near the city then most of the tourist features Sydney has to offer. Locations include Sydney City, Darling Harbour, Kings Cross & Potts point.

If you wanted to stay at a more backpacker style accomodation then Bondi Beach is great but a little away from the city.

Other Travel Tips
It depends on how much you're willing to spend. If you want to stay in Potts Point, which is lovely, it'll cost you quite a lot. A more inexpensive option is nearby Kings Cross, which is not quite as seedy as its reputation might have you believe.

If you're really feeling flush, you might like to try somewhere in Darling Harbour.
I would suggest the hotels in Darling Harbour if your budget allows. Otherwise, the hotels or motels in China Town are cheaper and more convenience for you to travel to other areas during your stay.
