Can I get around Taiwan speaking only English? |
Travel Info Can I get around Taiwan speaking only English? Travel Tips I studied Chinese in Taipei for about 8 months and I think you'll be able to get around fairly well with English. In Taipei, the under 35-ish folks generally understand english (even if they are too shy or embarassed to speak it). Street signs show the romanization as well as the Chinese characters (e.g., Hsintien) so you'll be able to read the signs. Also, the subway has good coverage and is easy to get around on. Taiwan has the best street food in the world! So you'll be able to eat well by strolling and pointing. Many restaurants have photos on the menus but there aren't many english menus. Best of all, people in Taiwan are generally very friendly (friendlier than in Hong Kong or Mainland China ;) and will be patient helping you make your way around. Outside of Taipei it's a little bit harder because English language is not so goo. However, if you just bring a guide book and point to where you want to go, you'll do fine. Have fun! Taiwan is a wonderful place. Others all students in tw have to study english however they just use to read/write most of them have difficulities listening to/speaking if u r patient enough, u still can communicate w/ them well also dont forget to taste various tw food have fun in tw me, cannot wait to go back to tw |
