Travel Tips
An the previous person mentioned... I would say the Mayan Rivera, specifically Playa Del Carmen.

Playa Del Carmen is outside Cauncun (by aboout 45 minutes) but is smaller and so incredibly relaxing.

Even though you are in Mexico you have COMPLETELY CLEAR Caribbean waters. There is great suba diving and good night life. For a totally awesome hotel recommendation I would stay at the Grand Mayan (not to confuse it with the Royal Mayan or Mayan Palace.)

If I could do my honeymoon again (we went to Jamaica)- I would pick the Grand Mayan in Playa Del Carmen. I think it is actually called the "Grand Mayan Riviera Maya". http://www.thegrandmayan.com/riviera/......

Here are some reviews of the Grand Mayan Riviera Maya:

It is perfect, relxing, beautiful, and really would provide the best vacation.

July/August is rather hot for Caribbean, but nice locations would me Mayan Rivera, Dominican Republic or USVI. For more information you can visit http://www.applevacations.com
Since July and August are during what is known as the Caribbean's "low season", the prices on hotel and airfare will be about as hot as the weather. While many a Caribbean traveler will take advantage of these lower fares and rates, it should be noted that the reason these fares and hotel rates are so much better is because not as many people travel to these destinations during the summer months. No matter where you choose to go, you will likely find it to be much more tranquil than say February/ March.

If it's peaceful tranquility you seek, I would strongly suggest the island of St. John in the United States Virgin Islands. This island is completely laid back (they don't even have a stoplight on the island) and your close proximity to St. Thomas, St. Croix, and the British Virgin Islands will afford you the opportunity to take a day trip over to those islands to get a change of scenery.
Long time Caribbean traveler.
The only quiet places during those months are the small virgin islands. all the other islands are pretty busy. St. Thomas is not bad during the week, but on the weekend is busy with cruises.
