Is Dubai mostly for wealthey people?

I am just learning of this beautiful place but I have heard that it is mostly for wealthy people! What is the cost of living there in relations to american dollars? How expensive is it to vacation there? I have read that 79% of the population is employed so is it hard to find employment there?

85% of Dubai's population are foreigners. The most are from the Indian Subcontinent and the Phillipines. Foreigners HAVE to be employed. Without an employment it is not possible to obtain/keep a residence visa. Except for property owners.

Workers in the UAE are not wealthy at all, coz their salaries are very low. At least from a Westerner's view. From their view it is still more than they might make at home.
Salaries in Dubai are tax free. Rents are skyrocking and the big demand for apartments is hard to satisfy. Most companies (at least for Westerners) offer a salary package incl. housing, furniture allowance, transportation and health care.

Costs for vacation vary. Depends on the Airline you take, which hotel you book, how long you stay and what season you will travel. Best thing to do is to look for special offers (like for the shopping festival) on the net or with a travel agency.

The mentioned ratio of 79% employment is regarding UAE Nationals. In the UAE you work either for the Goverment or the private sector. Big difference. The UAE has a big demand on engineers, teachers, nurses and doctors.

Dubai is not only for rich but,cost of accommodation is quite high.It is a safe country and temporary/odd jobs are not allowed due to work permit system.
Hey, i have been in dubai 5 days ago, life seems very wealthy at first but soon u'll find out it's normal! Sakan ghale wa el Taxi ghale! my vacation was just 2 days, if u r going to do shopping it will costs u too much ( 2 days for me kanet 8000 Dirham) but law ray7a 3ade almost will cost u nothing howa Hotel bas wa taxi's, about employment I have a friend had a new job (ABB) and he's telling me it's not hard.. Life out there begad gr8! u dont feel eno arabian country at all, fe Nezam for everything.. and good luck :)
