Travel Info I'm going to have one day in St. Thomas and one day in St. Martin ... what should I do? Travel Tips If you like shopping, both islands' downtowns' have great shopping districts. St. Martin is better for bargaining, so I would suggest shopping there, and Megan's Bay in St. Thomas which is a beautiful beach. If you don't want to shop, head up to Orient Beach in St. Martin. Gorgeous clear water. You can actually see your toes when you're in the water! (A unique experience when you're from the Northeast US). Others The duty-free shopping in both Phillipsburg, St Maarten and Charlotte Amalie, St Thomas are like nowhere else in the Caribbean. Also, if you're from the US and you shop in St Thomas, the amount of duty-free items you can take back thru customs is more than other countries ($1200 as opposed to $600). As far as beaches, you have Magens Bay in St Thomas (always on some travel mag's top 10 list), Orient Beach in St Martin for the sand, water and the occasional nude sunbather and lastly, Maho Beach in St Maarten as its right next to the airport runway so if you're a plane watcher and don't mind the noise, you get up close to landing planes. |
