St. Thomas or St. Croix? |
Travel Info I am planning a trip for me, my husband and our 15 year old son. Which island is more fun? More activities, places to see etc... Travel Tips If you want a lot of activities I would probably choose St. Thomas. If you want to hike, swim and snorkel, St. John. St. Croix is the biggest of all 3 US Virgin Islands. There is golf, horse back riding, snorkeling, diving, a very nice historical trail you can do by car - and the USVI's only casino (this is not Vegas - it is a one room casino pretty much). All three islands have their own virtues and there are lots of people who swear by one or the other. I think do it your self type and nature lovers may prefer St. John. St. Thomas is more of the big hotel type of exeperience (but there are villas too and B&Bs) and St. Croix always gets tabbed as the most authentic of the Virgin Islands. You need to visit some more websites and see for yourself. Island hopping is not as easy as it sounds - St. Thomas and St. John are close to each other and you can get to the BVI rather easily, but St. Croix is 40 miles away and about a $100 plane ride or $60 ferry trip. Other Travel Tips Saint Thomas is a tourist trap.You will see hundred of jewelery stores on main street.Saint John is more typical of the Carrabeeans but I do not know about accomodations there.My advice ,stay in Saint-Thomas and take tours of the smaller islands where tourism has not spoiled the local way of life. I have been there numerous times I am leaving FEB 1st for a week flying into ST Thomas taking the ferry($4.00) over to ST John and staying there in a rented house for $1,200 for the week , i have heard that ST Thomas has alot of cruise ships that are in a out of the port on St Thomas and the local's there can't stand the tourist. I plan on going island hoping while im there , One more thing i get the Virgin Island News every day , Seem's to be alot of hard crime on the Island of St Thomas. Happy Traveling ! |
