Travel Info How are taxi rates determined in DC? Travel Tips There is a zone system. Each part of the city is divided onto a map into different zones. Everytime you cross into a different zone, you pay a higher fare. They do NOT run a meter. Generally, this system makes significantly more expense to travel by cabs than in NYC.
